The Bessemer Area Historical Society is producing a 2013 Bessemer Historical Calendar..a first time event for the Society.  We are pleased to present historically significant pictures covering mining, City Hall, main street, fire department, Ramsay Park, Underwood mill site, old Washington school, a construction project at First Bluff, and a winter storm scene on Sophie Street in 1903.

The 2013 Bessemer Historical Calendar will be sold for $10 at Bessemer businesses beginning December 20, via mail $13.  Send your check, name, address and telephone number to BAHS,
P. O. Box 148, Bessemer MI  49911.

It is our hope the historical calendar will stir your interest in Bessemer area history and that you will continue your membership in the BAHS.

The BAHS continues to build its archives on the history of area families.  It is not just limited to Bessemer and Ramsay but also locations such as Anvil, Palms, Tilden, Yale, Puritan, Harding and North Bessemer.  The BAHS welcomes submittal of your family history covering their time period in the Bessemer area.

The BAHS is continuing to work with the Downtown Development Authority and the Spartan Committee on the Mary Street Park Project.  Initially the project is focusing in six ethic groups:  Polish, Croation, Cornish, Finnish, Swedish and Italian.  Other groups will most likely be added in future expansions.

The BAHS continues to do well with its mining DVD’s.  Washington 3rd grade, Olivet College Michigan History Class, Bessemer Women’s Club and the Bergland Historical Society all have visited the BAHS and have enjoyed the mining DVD’s, along with our exhibits, pictures and early City of Bessemer municipal record books.

The directors of BAHS want to thank you for your continued support of our efforts to preserve the history of the Bessemer area.  We want to extend our best wishes for a “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year”

Richard Steiger - Director
